It is truly amazing how the mind and fervor of the mass population can be molded and directed into a certain direction and the fervor can be mobilized into action. In reference to Germany in the 30's, the fuhrer had strong support domestically for his expansionary visions. Germany in the 30's also got additional support and cooperation from everywhere they invaded in continental Europe, and particularly from the established local governments. Opposition was in the minority. The minority opposition got drowned and labeled as anti-establishment and was put away in jail or eliminated from circulation where it can express opposition or went underground. Likewise with the regimes of Saddam Hussein, Kim Jung, Pol Pot, Ferdinand Marcos, Hirohito, etc. to varying degrees of ambitions, visions, and threats to the surrounding establishments. Correlation of mass hysteria with the virtues or evils of the visions of leaderships is a different subject (topic). Typically virtues are decided by the victors and vice versa. Historically the victors are the ones with the military might, i.e. the conquerors.
