Certainly, the United States knew that they were probably going to be attacked. U.S. Pacific forces were alerted before the attack, that hostilities were imminent.

You want cynical? Why did the commanders of Pearl fear sabotage, and place the air fleet where they could easily be destroyed by air? A very large number of the reserve troops defending the Islands were Japanese Americans.
