Maybe some interesting things coming down this week,

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. regulators are poised to announce new rules this week that will reshape the telecommunications industry for years and possibly inspire investors to return to the troubled sector.

Officials at the U.S. Federal Communications Commission hope to kick-start an industry that has shed 500,000 jobs since 2001 by encouraging providers to build new high-speed networks that could handle voice and Internet traffic and inspire as-yet-unknown applications.

They are expected to relax current rules that require local phone giants like Verizon Communications to share their equipment with competitors at discount rates. The change could hurt AT&T Corp. and other companies that rely on the current connection arrangements to sell competing local telephone service.
