Well, yes, it could be said to make sense if getting rid of WMD's was the main goal and everything else was extremely secondary.

But I don't think that's the case. I think there are many goals, spoken and unspoken, along a continuous spectrum of importance.

I think getting Saddam out of power and getting our people on the ground are the two primary goals at this point, whether we acknowledge it publicly or not. Once those two things happen, a broad range of other goals can be pursued and a lot of possibilities begin to open up.

Sitting back and allowing France and Germany to once again capitalize economically or diplomatically at our expense as we bear the cost of the buildup has no place in any of our plans. None whatsoever. It is just not going to happen.
