But I can tell after had lived in Africa for about 8 and a half years it is very difficult to persuade hungry and underdeveloped people to save any animal. Because they don't get any monetary benefit from it and often it causes them economic loss, like elephants eating and walking on their crop etc. And they don't have the resources to organize to get any benefits from tourists etc. Even if they like the idea of wild elephants or whatever in principle they don't have the capacity to indulge that preference...
