ShiloCat. You said....." I agree with Hawk that the bellicosity of Bush's stance has focused and motivated both Saddam and the UN.

What I don't want to see is a unilateral, preemptive invasion by the US.

I think it would set an unsustainable precedent and be ultimately counterproductive. ".....

OK.....And if after all this show of force By the USA trying to get sadam to comply with UN demands he...sadam...tells the world to jam it because he believes world support to be on his side. What then? Should the forces that are in the region now be and sent home saying ...Oh well we tried. Should sadam be given a free hand to do as he wishes?

In other words if the UN caves should the USA go home?

Oh that's convincing Shiloh.. Spend Billions of dollars to send several hundred thousand men to prepare for an invasion, but make sure Saddam knows that people like yourself would never invade him...

Guaranteed to strike utter contempt in the hearts of every Republican Guard in Iraq...

No wonder Braxton Bragg seems so close to your heart...

And it's not unilateral.. The British have troops there already, as do several other nations..

What seems to be counterproductive is the UN (primarily France, Russia, and Germany) trying to protect Saddam's regime (and their economic relationship with him) at any cost...
