BBC Moscow correspondent Nikolai Gorshkov says Russia does not want to use its veto at the UN because it would ruin the new-found strategic partnership between Moscow and Washington.

Hopefully, they will come aboard. NATO bombing Belgrad over the strongest objections from the Russians wasn’t, I guess, very helpful in developing trust.

Putin: "We are convinced that a one-sided use of force would lead to great suffering for the Iraqi population and increase tension in the whole region," Mr Putin said after talks with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on Sunday.

So let's see.. somehow, magically, a multi-sided use of force will decrease the "great suffering" for the Iraqi population??

I love it when these guys "word-smith" their soundbites to try and make seem as if they are offering some viable alternative..
