did not understand what you were protesting, as evidenced by the above remark.

While it is a fact that many people protested Vietnam on general principle, everyone who was involved pretty much agrees we lost the war because of a failure of leadership, which led to discontent at home.

I think most knowledgeable people agree that it was a righteous cause and that we lost the war because of the incompetence of LBJ and McNamara. A lot of liberals would not agree that it was a righteous cause, but these are the same people who are against war, no matter what (oh, well, there is that one exception -- when a Democrat is in the White House).

The most sickening thing about the upcoming war is the politicizing of it by the Democrats. Totally sickening.

"There would have been no significant anti-war protests against Vietnam had we had competent
leadership at the outset, used overwhelming force, had we had a clear commitment as to why we were
there and known when the fighting would end. "

You obviously did not understand what you were protesting, as evidenced by the above remark.

We didn't use overwhelming force at the beginning. We started with advisors, then added more advisors, then added combat soldiers pretending to be advisors, then sent a few soldiers openly to take part in combat, then sent some more, and gradually built up.

Even after we built up, we didn't consistently use overwhelming force. We would for a time use a lot of force but we didn't keep the pressure up consistently, and we put a lot of limits on the way force was used.
