yes, it is true on both counts. i only wish it catches on faster. I have eaten some buffalo burgers and they are ok. I have some friends/acquaintances who are avid hunters. They claim that deer and especially elk meat is a lot better (much less fat)... I have tried them both and I just simply cannot get over the "wild" taste... (maybe elk smoked sausage is more palatable, to the point of asking for more... -g) When I hear the stories of what one has to do to hunt the damned things (and the money involved in gear and licenses...) forget it... not for me... my days of hee man are long past, I would never go off into the wilds to freeze my arse off to say I nabbed one of them antlers... (much less cut its head and hang it from a wall above a fireplace) Long, long ago, a friend of mine had invited me to his ranch to hunt for quail (using shot guns), my friend (who is a gun maniac) had also brought his 3007 with him... as we were walking... he stopped and showed me in the distance a huge male deer with huge antlers.... I happened to be carrying his rifle at the time and so I aimed at it and had it on the crosshairs... then... he said... stop, don't shoot. it is off season, we should not kill it... So I did not. We kept on going and hunted plenty of quail for dinner... but no deer. My only experience hunting... which btw... this was when I lived in lower latitudes, therefore the "freeze my arse factor" was non-existent -g.
