Can't your dividends paid be treated as a dividend loss and be written off against dividend gains?


that's what I assumed would be the way to handle them, and all this year I have been keying dividends paid into Quicken as a negative dividend received. I started doing my taxes this morning and I noticed that the 1099 I received from Harris only shows the dividend received; there is no offset for dividends paid. consequently, I'm guessing you reduce your sales basis for the cost of the dividend paid. I posted the question on several threads and no one has given me an answer, which is surprising. I'll guess I'll have to ask my accountant
