EVERY SINGLE TIME a so-called moderate muslim appeared in the media after 9/11 to condemn the murder there was some sort of aside, footnote or hedge to the effect that were the US not so involved as allies of Israel it would not have happened. I don't claim a clearer view than others here but I have a suggestion...a boring task...click on Amazon.com and read the damned book! The officially sanctioned version in English endorsed by the House of Saud. If one can wade through "War and Peace" (I did as a senior ready to go to college) one can get through the ~350 pages of their "manual." This pandering to the oil sources of Saudi Arabia is getting tiresom. Chris Matthews (whom I call the blond screamer) on CNBC asked his royal highness whatever, the Saudi ambassador to the US "Your Highness, is it true that the second largest export of your country after oil is islamic fundamentalism?" The answer: "Absolutely" King Fahd said nearly two decades ago in another interview for US media that islam and democratic government are incompatible. It is right there on the wall for anybody to see but few dare to lift their noses to the truth that we have entered a war of civilizatons. It is all rather like some of the banter that goes on in good natured exchange here among bulls and bears with respect to price of gold or oil, future of the dollar, etc., all looking at our collective future fortunes. If as a member of western modernist society you defend islam ala First Amendment you are either blind or misinformed. Flame away, but please do so with some reading under yor belt. Ever hear of Salman Rushdie? He has some views on the subject. For the rest I apologize for the rant but I don't think it is off topic, on the contrary, the topic of islam is in my view and contrary to Jay's admireable and good natured libertarian approach to the world, is at the top of the list in discussing survival. A good comparison to the cold war days, we were in great danger under the threat of MAD policies, but we could at least sleep at night knowing the Soviets were intent on saving their children. I still wait for just one massive rally of US muslims to condemn without hedges or disclaimers the actions of their "more extreme" brothers. Sisters were deliberately excluded in the that statement. It is in the book. They are chattle. I still wonder where they go when they die and wonder how they are reborn virgins. As was said with great hilarity in "Shakespere in Love"...it is a mystery. It is your money and your futures folks. Jim Black
