While I (having not been alive at that time, but in retrospect) would have preferred if they'd executed alternative uses of the atom bomb - such as among those which were discussed included dropping an atom bomb on Mount Fuji or in one of the harbors where the Japanese Navy was centered - I still find that those pictures pale in comparison to the thought of tens of thousands of U.S. servicemen who, having not had to storm the beaches of Japan proper by virtue of the post-atomic surrender, came back home alive.
