As France and Germany are proposing, put UN troops on the ground alongside the weapons inspectors. With weapons inspectors and UN troops on the ground, Saddam isn't going to be attacking ANYONE.

The cost in terms of human life and military expenditures would be infinitely cheaper.

Cheers,

that his unpredictability could lead him to share his hidden stuff (whatever it is) with our enemies, then what do you propose we do?

Just because he may share his weapons is no justification for an attack. Besides, he has not done so for 12 years. None of his neighbors want us to go to war against Iraq except Israel.

Let's put the shoe on the other foot.

We aided Iraq in its war against Iran. Saddam killed 600,000 Iranians with the aid of chemical weapons. At the same time, we were providing anthrax to Saddam. We were providing weapons of mass destruction to Iraq. Do you give Iran the right to attack the US?

The Times of India (your name indicates an Indian connection) had this story a few months ago:

US helped Iraq against Iran during Gulf War
CHIDANAND RAJGHATTA

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, 2002 02:56:08 PM ]

WASHINGTON: The United States helped Saddam Hussein with critical battle planning assistance in Iraq’s decade-long Gulf War against Iran despite knowing the "evil" dictator was using chemical weapons, it was disclosed on Sunday, much to the embarrassment of the US administration, but to no one’s great surprise.

Just because you are afraid what Saddam might do, it does not give you the right to inflict 500,000 casualties to get him.

What happened to our ideal that 99 guilty go free rather than one innocent be found guilty?

Many Americans have been scared witless by the frequent warnings of this administration. And it shows.
