Pregnancy is ambiguous at the beginning of unknown duration.

This is irrelevant. Once again, abortion law is based upon the state of pregnancy, whenever it exists. This coupled with the fact that where there is human pregnancy, there is humanity, makes the civilized choice clear.

Birth is a boundary event with a much smaller level of uncertainty.

There is no more certainty at birth than at a mere second before birth. It takes a good deal of self-deception to arbitrarily define a human’s real existence only at the moment the human falls from the womb.

Life is an unbroken chain stretching back 4 billion years.

Well, that is certainly moot. Moreover, the issue here is human life and the definition of individual humanity. We ought not confuse the issue at hand here.
