The Anti-choice folks need a stalking horse because the bulk of public opinion is against them. Millions of women have abortions- even women who claim to be anti-abortion. I have never had an abortion, nor could I ever abort a healthy fetus of my own. I just couldn't do it. But I would never, ever, want to make that choice for someone else, nor would I want the law to make it for someone else. I can understand why abortion would really bother people. But I do not have much sympathy for people who want to control other people's lives in such an intimate and personal way, in order to alleviate that bother.
