Bush invokes the name of God. So does Bin Laden. So does Saddam. So do the Mosque-burners in India. So did the Arabs who leveled all the synagogues in Jerusalem's Old City, after they (temporarily) conquered it in 1948.

I have stayed out of your discussion, Jacob. But this is a bit much, IMO. You do not mean that you think Bush's statements about God are on the same level as the evil of Bin Laden, Saddam, etc, actions?

But the time isn't now, it seems. In every speech he gives, Bush invokes the name of God.

Not fair Jacob.. when I publicly see Bush calling for a Crusade against Muslims and imposition of Christian rule throughout the world through force of American might, then I'll be right there with you in opposition..

I have my own religious views, but they do not include coercing others in a "convert or die" strategy.. And I don't know of too many Christians who believe such a thing either...

It is militant Islamo-fascism which is forcing such a confrontation with other religions, as well as hoping to create the catalyst which unites Muslims under the Wahabbist dogma. Not Christianity or any other religion...

Kinda like economics, IMO.. The better system should win out.. The one that most people are willing to live with and which provides them both comfort and understanding..

And essentially, the Islamic and Judeo/Christian religions bear much more in common than they do difference... In fact, all three faiths acknowledge their common origin..

Jacob, the problem with this view is it naturally leads one to the conclusion that religion is at one end of the spectrum, while a bland kind of neutrality is at the other. It is a fallacy to assume that removing religion from the life experience of a nation is a neutral act. It is far from neutral.

As I've said in a previous post; in human history, the most savage conquerors performed their acts with little reference to religion or God. Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Attila The Hun, Genghis Khan, Napoleon, Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, Tito, Kim Il-sun, and Nicholas II. None of these rulers made serious attempts to impose faith on their victims.

Looking at your logic from the other angle. Did the fact that none of these people invoke the name of God while performing their acts of massacre, cause them to act this way?
