it was for a good cause.
There is still a huge drug problem in the inner cities because of Reagan's henchmen training people in the making and selling of crack cocaine to finance their Central American wars. By thunder, they even transported it on American military planes.

No matter how noble, the law was subverted, and those that were guilty were sent into the wilderness. And, subsequently found their way back...

We shouldn't dwell on defending noblesse of the action. It simply gives the other side the opportunity to claim the same right to subvert the law (which they do for less admirable reasons).
