What's sad is that peaceful resolution and disarmament has no chance whatsoever. It is no longer an option for variety of reasons posted in this thread. We are too focused on one subject, DEATH and DESTRUCTION, nothing else matters. Presently the odds strongly favors an additional 4 years of Bush regime. The roaring 90's was a period of an ever increasing wealth gap between Americans and the rest of the world. The newest hot topics in trade and economic conferences were preservation of the environment and how to distribute and spread the wealth worldwide. No need to discuss either of those topics anymore. Environment is a verbotten topic and the wealth gap is narrowing and will continue for many years. Nature has its ways to neutralize any excesses.
