If you ever get hold of this month's Prospect, I think you would find this article interesting, though.

I read the article you have posted, and in comparison, find it emotional rather than analytic: "Why then does the world hate a country that uses it power to keep the peace rather than rule? Resentment, jealousy, and envy of the proud and powerful are often cited as the very human and age-old motives that prompt states irrationally to slur and libel — just as people do against their betters." etc etc...

This is not to put down the article, but again, I wish I could post the Prospect article on the subject which is impartial and analytical. I think you would find it very interesting.

Thanks Brumar, for posting the Victor Davis Hanson article "Are Americans really so Imperial".....I had forgotten that one, but today, three months later, it seems even more appropriate!

And yes, I wonder too if we will pull our troops from Germany, and South Korea...and in several other places in the world. Maybe Europeans will have to start funding their own protection after all. Or not, as the case may be.
