TED, I was a bit taken aback by his comments, too. The buy-side analyst who he was answering seemed a tad pissed at RTB's "explanation", which seemed like a weak rationalization to me. There is no reason to think that the likelihood of getting sued based on guidance is any less with analyst coverage, unless he thinks he can give the guidance privately to them and not to the general public, and that this would mean they would be on the hook and not him.

I agree with you that this is no way to get analyst coverage. And giving the buy-side guys you really want to bring on board some silly rationalization that only makes you look naive (at best) is no way to win them over.
