You are aware, aren't you, that you are in the same corner as a guy who believes the conspiracy theory about Pearl Harbor: that your liberal hero FDR provoked it, knew it was coming, ordered information withheld, and welcomed it?

You are putting words in my mouth.

I do not know what happened and do not have any provable theories yet.

All I know is that the official explanation does not describe the evidence my eyes see.

There is the question of why USAF jets weren't scrambled once the planes went off course.

(And THAT raises a question foe those making the allegation they should have been. Should they have? Is this still policy? That was a Cold War tactic and the Cold War is 15 years dead.)

A fighter was scrambled within fifteen minutes when Payne Stewart's jet missed a prescribed vector.

It was not until decades later, when Ultra material started being released, that it became apparent just how much Washington really did know about an impending attack (Pearl Harbor) and withheld from field commanders.

This is one of the major reasons making a coverup plausible.

>>>>Assuming military jets should have scrambled, a USAF general or maybe Rumsfield himself may have decided that that wasn't needed since they knew those planes were US commercial flights originating from US domestic airports. And they had no idea what was coming. They probably thought these were just some more hijackings and they would make things more dangerous for the passengers and crew if USAF jets showed up.<<<<

I have seen these notes about scrambling jets in other posts. I know you are not the one questioning it. However, I do remember some of the events of that day.

The jets that were scrambled arrived over Washington City at around 10 AM. They were prepared to take out another plane that was threatening Washington City. However, some of our fellow citizens did that for them. We thought the planes came from Andrews AFB which is just to the east of Washington City in Maryland. However, we later learned that they were from Langley AFB outside of Norfolk, Va. From what I remember hearing, Langley was only 1 of 4 bases in the U. S. assigned to scramble jets in our defense. I believe that was changed immediately and there are now somewhere around 20 or maybe 24 bases ready to scramble.

There are probably printed accounts of this in the Post from around that day.
