I agree, but have been surprised by Bay Area real estate before. In Redding there has been a boom of about 25% over the last year, and I am pretty sure it is people like me who bailed. We sold our track house in Concord in January 2001 for $475,000. I can't see how the bay area economy can support run of the mill tract housing in areas like Concord in the half million range. Will it soon cost a million for an average house? Utterly ridiculous imo.
