Like I said before, that's almost as ludicrous as saying North Korea didn't want nukes until Bush called them "evil." All this stems from the notion that a strong stance against terrorism causes terrorism, and that only through appeasement will terrorism finally be eradicated.

No, think "personality cult." In EVERY single evil regime of modern history, you can find characteristics common to personality cults. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Kim Il Sung, Castro, Saddam, and Osama, to name just a few. In such cults, there is an element of religious zeal, and there is an element of Orwellian secularism. It's a mix that creates the worst horrors you can imagine.
