Most interesting thoughts, Nadine....and there may be some truth hidden there...especially this, and after 9-11. I believe that Americans everywhere are listening more. Not necessarily agreeing, but certainly listening. We are seeing some of this on SI, and even here on FADG. Most of the posters here have had their mind engaged for sometime.

Thus where the Europeans expect the Americans to largely ignore their criticisms, instead the Americans are reacting to them. Public postures for purposes of pandering to the home folks are actually being listened to in Washington, which is reacting with anger and rising suspicion.
