Banning short-selling is just an act of desperation on the part of the authorities to levitate a market that wants to go lower. And whether they ban it or not, the market goes where it wants to go.

As Richard Russell said a little before the bear market began : "Expect the Fed to fight the bear tooth and nail. Expect the IMF and the World Bank and the world's bankers to turn out. Expect CNBC and Fortune and Forbes to fight. There'll be consortiums and bailouts and encouraging words and presidential promises. But in the end, the bear will have his way."

Add "ban on short-selling" to the list. The bear doesn't care. He will have his way anyway!
