Hawk,
I am concerned that Powell totally misconstrued what bin laden had to say in the audio. This plays right into the hands of those on the left who say all or most of the evidence is contrived. Bin Laden had some pretty harsh things to say about Saddam--implication was that they would support him as the least of the two evils. This is very similar to irans and syrias thinking as well, perhaps even the saudis.
I will state some facts as i see them and suggest there might be a third way--somewhere between US & France.
1. Saddam is a menace to the region and to the world with wmds if left alone.
2. Inspectors contain saddam
3. Inspectors only contain saddam because of the believable US threat and the 150-200k troops already there.
4. France and Germany want to continue inspections but have not answered the question on how one keeps saddam in the box without US forces mobilized on the border.
5. US forces cant be mobilized on the border forever.
6. Blue helmets if suggested as a replacement will stand idly by as they did bosnia when saddam seizes his opportunity that is sure to come.

Question. Given the above, facts as i see them, what could be an alternate "third way solution" that would satisfy all parties. Remember satisfaction leaves no party completely happy--its what compromise is all about and for us to have to live in a world where Saddam and Sons Inc. continues to rule will be discouraging to say the least.

Possible answers.
1. World pays for continued deployment of US troops in the region until all wmds accounted for. That would include costs of rotations to keep them as sharp as possible.
2. Germans, French and Russians supply troops also as per #1.

3. Saddam shares intelligence on al quaida. After all bin laden made it plain that he would ultimately be after saddam.
