France has developed commercial interests in Iraq over the last several years and wants to protect them and to hell with the UN sanctions that they are supposedly bound by when the "Honor and Glory of France" (or in other words their selfishness ) are at stake. Germany is governed by socialists who don't have a clue - Belgium is just small and who knows what their reasons are for aligning with France and Germany.

The US should pull out of NATO entirely. Then France, Germany and Belgium can fund their own self-defense, which the US has provided to them (for free) via their presence in Europe for nearly 60 years. The militaries that each of those countries have are well below levels required for independent self-defense. They are really just there for national pride and nothing else.
