Ted Re..."People should know how the French make their wine," Hastert spokesman John Feehery said. Republicans are trying to determine how much French wine on the market has been clarified, or essentially made clearer, by using bovine blood, a process banned after the scare involving bovine spongiform encephalopathy -- or "mad cow disease" -- in the late 1990s.

This is really short sighted. We don't need a trade war, along with everything else.

There is also growing momentum on Capitol Hill to move many of the 71,455 U.S. troops from Germany, lawmakers said. Marine Gen. James Jones, the U.S. commander in Europe, recently briefed lawmakers on an emerging plan to radically change the U.S. military presence in Europe, in great part by moving troops out of Germany. The idea is to make the nation's European-based military lighter and more flexible and less reliant on a permanent station in Germany, according to White House and congressional officials.

This one I heartily agree with. Germany doesn't want US troops on their soil, and we should oblige them. The same with NATO. If the members of NATO don't want to abide by the terms of NATO, then NATO will; just like the UN, become irrelevant. NATO would be far stronger if its members stopped trying to politicize it. And to stop that, we might have to isolate the members who are doing just that. The UN is for politics, if it is politics they want. There can be no compromising national security because of political rift. We would be wise to realign our treaties so as to recognize the new threats to world peace. As such, a new treaty between allies in the middle east would be wise. And moving our troops to where they are needed makes sense militarily.

The benefits of letting Europe develop their own security plan, is that they would recognize the value of the military. It is easy enough to complain about everybody elses military, but when one is faced with providing their defense by themselves, maybe they will appreciate it more. Sort of like how much more people treasure what they paid for with their blood and sweat and tears, as opposed to something they were given. The Europeans feel we are taking Nato into something they don't want to be in. Fine, then they should have their own NATO, independent of US needs to maintain their independence.
