Uday Hussein wants to arm Palestinians
BAGHDAD feb 6th

Light arms and mortars should be sent to the Palestinians to help them in their uprising against Israeli occupation, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's elder son, Uday, said on August 6.

"We have to find a way, whether legal or not, for light arms and mortars to reach those who need them in the occupied territories," Uday Hussein said in his Babel newspaper.

Baghdad had to grant the Palestinians the one billion euros of aid it promised to "dissuade young Palestinians from leaving their country because of the bad economic situation," the paper said.

Babel blasted "Arab silence" and warned against a regional war "which the Zionists are trying to provoke because they consider that the time is right for such a conflict."

"The West is looking to escalate the situation with Iraq to deflect world attention when Israel is stepping up its repression in the Palestinian territories by increasing the number of assassinations and acts of war."

The paper also rounded on Iran for "helping to create a climate suitable for U.S. designs... Each time that there is an escalation in the occupied territories, Iran raises its tone on Iraq simultaneously with the United States."

President Saddam Hussein has welcomed the Palestinian uprising against Israel that erupted in September and announced the formation of a volunteer Jerusalem Liberation Army.
