That depends on the risk factors. I would think that responsible prenatal care would involve early testing of some sort, at least ultrasound. I know it did with us.

This is the period in which those who weren't ready for a child but chose not to get an abortion tend to shake the infant until it's too brain damaged to cry. I think it's better to get them to consider whether they are ready earlier.
