ET,
Good points. Terrorism has been around forever but the extent of Palestinian suffering is far outweighed by the suffering of other who have not employed terrorism at all or if they have, in a more benign way. To put it another way, most terror groups hit targets and in many case try to avoid civilian casualties to the extent possible. Who else bombs pizzarias and places of worship to the extent done world wide by Palestinians? I guess India-Pakistan is an area where this is now done as is chechyna both initiated by moslems with grievances. Mike
PS i know india is ruled by a Hindu nationalist party and extremists there have engaged in some of this behaviour as well.

I am not sure it is the PA pumping the martyrdom idea. At most they are probably riding the wave, which builds up on from the underlying dynamics of religious rhetoric, frustration, and their everyday life bordering on most people's idea of "hell" in comparison to which a possible paradise might be very enticing, indeed...

PA terrorism has nothing at all to do with terrorism. It became an tool in the sixties of what the PA considered to be a war of national liberation. PA suicides use religion to calm the actors and their families, but it is not at all viewed as a religious event. Even for Hamas, justification is more political than religous. mike
