ET, Oh sure he has the wmds. No doubt. But it is in americas interest not to get wrapped up in the anti-franco german thing. IF we can cut a verifiable deal with them and have their support for war if and when it comes, it will be worth alot. Here is where i split from the folks who talk about old and new europe. My belief is that Putin will play a critical role here because he has credibility on both sides. Thats all i mean in supporting friedmans idea, if it can be both quantified and verified. Also there still is a shot we can accomplish our goals without war. And any time you can avoid war is a good thing if you do not sacrifice too much. mike
