A unified front by us and our allies should have been paramount. Yes, a unified front would be perfect, but a front alone does nothing without some teeth. The US and the UK want the teeth visible and ready, France and Germany want to keep pussyfooting around. Do you really think that we have to show teeth? Everyone in this damn world knows we are armed up the wazzoo. Its not an issue of teeth....its an issue of what's the best course of action that will reap the most benefits with the least amount of cost. And the way you determine the best course of action is thru consultations behind the scenes.....its called foreign diplomacy. Because there has been little discussion behind the scenes, we are getting the chance to see all the dirty laundry between the US and Germany/France. The Germans and French are saying publicly what should have been said privately had they had the opportunity. Instead, he knows now we are not unified and he knows where the weak points are. Its too bad. Yep, France and Germany are out there for all to see. It is too bad. Our weak points are that we never got consensus from our allies; that we seemingly were too lazy or too arrogant to do the work necessary to make that happen. Bin Laden commented once that our hi-tailing it out of Somalia made him think we were weak and encouraged him on the way to 9/11...I wonder if the road France and Germany are taking could backfire and encourage some attacks against them? Don't you get it........anything bin Laden says is meaningless to us...its intended to scare us and to inform his concerts......its mostly double talk. It can have multiple meanings with the major intent of undermining our confidence........its what real terrorists do best. Can't you tell the difference between when Saddam speaks vs OBL? Saddam sounds like an old fart....he huffs and he puffs and doesn't scare us. bin Laden speaks and the world starts to get the shakes and security gets heightened. There is a world of difference between the two. We have to get bin Laden and decimate al Qaeda! ted
