With the Cold War over, America is the only bully going. Thus, to a hellbent administration such as Bush-Cheney, world opinion doesn't and won't matter. The only thing that matters is whose got they power. They've got it, they know they've got it and they'll do whatever it takes to keep it and to enhance it. Although already obvious to anyone reading international news, let's assume truth from the US to the rest of the world doesn't matter. So where does truth matter? One place and one place only. So long as the rightwing Republican base (essentially, the Christian right, anti-abortionists, anti-gun control advocates and the corporate lobby) remains intact all that's needed is a bit of obfuscation of the picture, enough to sufficiently draw in some of the middle-roaders (genuinely concerned elderly, the soccer moms, for example). You see, with only half of the people in America performing the citizen duty of voting, the political outreach needed in order to maintain the base of power--the Bush-Cheney base of power--is not a whole lot. On the congressional level, it requires incumbency, the power of money behind it and a twisting of the truth (including great use of the Drug War) to keep the base. And the base is the only place where truth matters to the Bush-Cheney administration. So what does this have to do with the grandparents, the mother of children, the children themselves and the father who likely only wants a job to support his family, all of whom have the misfortune to live in Iraq today? What do they know about this truth, as twisted by Bush and his warmongers. They only know to fear it, and do. However, as the clouds of doom continue to push back the sunshine, more and more fear has begun to pervade in America. Hopefully, enough fear such that the Bush-Cheney administration will completely reexamine where it's heading and who really are the people their policies are effecting: what kind of truth trully should need be put forward? We like to think the sun shines behind the clouds. But does it for the innocent Iraqi family? For that matter, does it shine for us?
