slacker711, re "Unicom seemed to be announcing everytime they added another million CDMA subscribers."

I remember KDDI as the company doing announcements every 1 million subscribers, no matter the day of the month. If China Unicom Group did so, it would have been the listed China Unicom IMHO, which just recently made 5 million, not 8 million.

Is there another carrier in China providing CDMA service? For Dec '02, the KDDI site says 4.491 mln subs, but the chinanex site says 4.908 mln subs.
chinaunicom.com.hk
chinanex.com ((Jim's link)

If chinanex were including any of the non-listed Unicom subs, all would have been included, kicking the total up to 7+ mln. So those 417,000 subs are from somewhere else .. unless chinanex made a mistake, of course.

What do you think is happening here?
