if you ask me one of the reasons "payroll taxes" sneak by people is the name. They should rename payroll taxes to what they are- social security taxes. Then everybody would know where their money was going and it would force some hard decisions to shore up the program. I know when I was in my 20s I had no idea that FICA was social security.
