John, re "Cingular late last year suspended its shipments of a hybrid handset-network solution using enhanced observed time difference of arrival technology in favor of a network-based solution using TDOA.

Cingular's move later was followed by AT&T Wireless Services, ...
".

_enhanced observed time difference of arrival_? That technology has the acronym E-OTD, i.e., without the "of arrival", but the author is correct by including it. So AT&T and Cingular have jumped from *enhanced observed* TDOA .. to TDOA. Do you see the irony in that?

IMHO, the CTOs had lost so much sleep over E-OTD that they were unable to make an intelligent choice for the replacement technology.

The CTOs, and the companies, have jumped from a dead horse to a dying one. The CTOs will remain sleepless.
