no real argument with that, both parties are worthless on this issue. And now they are both buying into that stupid drug plan, yet more entitlement spending for the elderly.

About the only real reform that I think is possible wrt social security is to remove the designation of "payroll taxes". Just call it a tax lumped in with the general fund, (which is what it is) and create tax policy around it. Seniors couldn't gripe, because it would just be a semantic issue. Then, when the real cost of this boondoggle is managed along with every other tax maybe expenses could be controlled with budget caps or other policy. But right now having a "social security trust fund" makes the whole program appear worthwhile and solvent which it isn't.
