Interesting thoughts… and I’ll join you for a glass of vino.

Reaper, Greenie certainly did know better, but he is human, and in the end, I think, he recognized the ‘error of his ways’ and became a believer. Just like I did. Fortunately, I retained enough skepticism to recognize the Bear when he bit me on the arse.

I seriously think that we are hard-wired to repeat our mistakes. We come around to become ‘believers’ near the top, and will probably become ‘bears forever’ by the time we reach the bottom… A hundred years from now the whole thing will repeat itself all over again… if I live that long (hmmm…), I’ll do a better job getting out at the top. Some day – again, if I live long enough – I’ll tell my great grandchildren how to do get out on time, but they won’t believe me, because, you see, I’ll be an old conservative fool, and THAT time it WILL be different, and the whole circle will in due course... complete itself again.

Cheers!

sorry for the rant.
Hey, guy, that was a FANTASTIC rant! One of the best (and most accurate) I've read in a long time.

hmmm...so what you are saying is that due to lack of dedicated followers, production of great leaders has been indefinitely postponed...I can buy that.

cheers,

Sorry? Not necessary. A "you're welcome" is in order for the straight talk.

Have you ever heard of the Seven Generation Rule? For any course of action that differed from established norms, the Hopi would (I don't know if they still do) carefully consider in a council of leaders, the impact of said decision, seven generations into the future. "If we want to hunt on the mesa, what could that mean seven gens from now? If we want to divert part of the stream into this lowland, what could happen? If we want to trade with the Navajo, how will that impact us?"

Do you think the people of this country consider the what-ifs that far out about anything other than maybe Yucca Mountain? Nope, no further than the next meal, reality show, purchase or vacation.

Or....how many people in the US do you think have spent a any time living in the conditions of someone who earns the global median income? (And I don't mean leaving your house some morning in Atlanta with 4 bucks in your pocket to try and live like some college student on the cheap. I mean the total, collective life-quality of HALF the people on this planet.) How many do you think have gone 24 hours w/o a meal or walked two miles at one stretch in the last year?

As a nation, we are trapped on the lowest level of Maslow's Hierarchy of needs.

Nope...no apology necessary.
Thanks, actually.
