Stevie D., when you collect 65% of the tax from only 20% of the population, it is not hard to see how government gets into revenue shortfalls at times like these. It's exponential (up and down). We benefited from the up side providing the surplus (through excess taxation and foiled spending plans), and now we are paying the price on the downside for a tax policy that relies too heavily on too few.

Also, your figures do not take into account the cost of FICA and Medicare to the top 20% as the "employers", generally speaking, of the Nation. Your figures are only personal taxes, and do not show how this group, fronting 50% of FICA and Medicare taxes through their businesses, carries a much heavier burden than it is convenient for you to admit.
