France and Germany do not support a unilateral action by the US. Had the US practiced diplomacy instead of amateurish ranting then this crisis about Turkey would not have happened. Nato is a consensus organization and as such critical decisions are made behind closed doors. If agreement can be reached then it goes public. Bush and co. did it backwards.
The US record on support for the UN is very poor as any study of the money the US owes shows. In addition the overt declarations concerning the US plans to go it alone followed by a long delayed discussion certainly weakens your case for UN support by the US.
Finally the well known contempt that the right wing conservatives, who, incidentally, are in power, have for the UN can not be considered support.

We can certainly agree that the EU and NATO should present a unified front. And they do, just not the one Bush wants.
The only country that wants to go it alone is the US, all the rest want UN agreement and a new resolution. That resolution is something the US has not been able to get yet because the proof of Iraq's WMDs hasn't been presented. The Al-Qaeda connection is weak at best.

As far as your statement "...shut up, and put up.", that does not support the UN.
As far as non-compliance with UN regulations and the support the US gives to implementing these resolutions, Israel has the record for non-compliance and the US does nothing to rectify that.
