He misses an important point: the CONTENT may not be American, but the FORM is.

How much more American is the bathing suit beauty pageant? The sitcom? Reality TV is European? America was doing "reality TV" in the 70s with the Loud family...

You can't beat a culture that is itself an amalgam of everything successful from every culture on the planet! We suck it all in and make it our own.

Mr Freund is one of my favorite writers, but, I also believe he's missed something simple, yet important, about American culture. We are a culture of "Big".

We drive big vehicles, we have big children, we live in big houses, participate in big businesses, have big appetites, buy big computers, connect together with big networks, watch big movies, eat big hamburgers, build big buildings, have a big economy and protect it all with big military power.

We also have a big heart, big compassion, and a big yearning to spread freedom and liberty around the world. We have big dreams, big visions, and a big desire to keep growing and sharing those optimistic dreams with everyone on the planet.

Our "Big" is getting bigger, in the process it's swallowing up cultures around the world who lack the big umbrella of diversity, and who approach life with limitations and small endeavors. America the "Big" embraces big change.

Nations such as France, fear it.
