Remember the reaction of European leaders to Bush declaring a "war on terror" after 9/11? "Pooh pooh, we're not at war." Well, this goes beyond mere criminality. It's strange that there can be such a perspective gap across the Atlantic. If a bunch of fanatics rammed the Eifel Tower with a jumbo jet like that, I would certainly have considered it a deliberate act of aggression on France, not a criminal act by a bunch of ambitious purse snatchers.
