William, you are talking to a guy who didn't take even a crappy course in economics in over 35 years... -g. I'm happy if I can figure out half way decently the psychology of it all.. Speaking psychologically, I think it is fully feasible that he may have honestly bought the New Paradigm (again, just as I did). Y2K gave him another reason to blow up the bubble. If computers would crock and he did nothing in advance, he would be hung. Moreover – IF Greenspan were half as smart as people thought he was, he would have resigned while the going was good. So, he is not all THAT smart.
