Hey, John. In case you ever "Nuance" your way back to us.

I'm here. For the moment. Been working on other projects. Most interesting is some local government issues; bond funding for renovating an old school building in town. I've never been active at that level and am finding it fascinating. Particularly since almost everyone else involved has known one another for twenty or thirty years of civic participation. And I've not been active since my work place was 200 miles away.

The schools officials we've dealt with to date are just excellent public servants. Since I was something of a rebel in high school, that's a sentence I'm completely surprised to type.

But I found enough time last night to start trying to catch up. Much of it the same ol, same ol.

Looks as if Nadine still has her very large anti-semitism category working. I see she's trying to persuade FL that Scott posts some anti-semitic stuff. Last time we talked about that, it was only one, not plural and it was the Hermann piece. If there are more, I have no doubt she will correct me.

The problem with calling a piece, the Hermann piece, which offers harsh criticisms of the Israeli government as anti-semitic is the term loses all serious meaning. It does merit the criticism of being extremely one sided; but if that criticism was a reason to stop posting, something on the order of 75% of the posts to this forum would need to be swept off the board. If the harshness of the language were a criterion, ditto.

I can still see an argument for not having pieces like the Hermann piece posted but that argument requires, to repeat myself, criteria that transcend political locations. And FL doesn't have that; nor do the other members of the thread. FL has civility/incivility criteria, which are fine; but they don't, with very rare exception, get to the content issue. Nor should they.

It's also, to move to a second point, still a place which is much more comfortable for folk from the further right and is becoming even more so. The sort of gang swarm tactics when serious lefty stuff gets posted are still the order of the day.

As for the post to which I'm responding, it doesn't strike me as your writing style. Looks to me as if it came from someone's blog. Care to enlighten as to which?

Hi, John. Glad to see you back. You will notice that I put the quote in ">>> <<<" to indicate that I did not write it. It was from Nordlinger's "Impromptu" at NRO nationalreview.com We both know the "Times" writers, like you, view the situation as the "Sophisticated" Euros vs the "Cowboy" Americans.

Ghostrider posted an excellent article from the WP last night on our planned occupation of Iraq. Message 18573838
I am glad to see that we are planning to try a "Cakewalk" before we get too nasty.
