Level 3 to Disconnect Companies Deemed too Small, Globe Says
By Nicole Ostrow

Boston, Feb. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Level 3 Communications Inc. and its Genuity Estate subsidiary have threatened to cut off 250 companies they consider too small to serve, the Boston Globe said, citing a bankruptcy court filing.

One of the companies threatened with disconnection is NetWay, a Massachusetts-based provider of Internet service and Web-hosting to customers including the Boston Stock Exchange and the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut, the newspaper said. NetWay has 2,800 dial-up Internet customers and 1,000 Web-hosting customers, the Globe said.

NetWay President Douglass Smith told the Globe that Level 3 went through Genuity's contracts and chose those that weren't making enough money, the paper reported. NetWay customers could have no service as soon as today, the Globe said, citing Smith.

A Genuity spokesman said Level 3 decides which companies to disconnect, not Genuity, the paper reported. A Level 3 spokesman said Genuity Estate filed the court document. He said some of the customers don't fit Level 3's customer profile, the Globe reported.
