Japan Set to Punish Nikko Salomon

The Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission said it had concluded after an investigation that Nikko Salomon, a joint venture of Citigroup and Nikko Cordial Corp., had manipulated the price of shares in setting up an exchange-traded fund (ETF). U.S. bank J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.'s brokerage unit was ordered to halt part of its operations for 10 business days earlier this month as punishment for irregular transactions.
