Oh God, Rudi, don't do that. Not if you can possibly avoid it. Stop seeing orthopedic surgeons. See a physical medicine specialist. Get physical therapy. Walk regularly.

Back surgery is risky. Be certain to get a 2nd opinion. You're likely to hear things that the 1st guy won't tell you.

Things go seriuosly wrong in back surgery. I tore a muscle in my back about halfway through. I was off work and basically immobilized for close to 5 months. I went the conservative route and repeatedly refused to allow surgery. Every orthopod I saw wanted to operate, so I quit seeing them. I still have trouble 20 years later, but I'm in better shape than most people who had surgery.

I know one woman who worked the day before her surgery, walked into the hospital for it, and hasn't walked since. And she's in constant uncontrollable pain.

Be real careful about this. Please.
