Sorry to hear this. I've had back trouble for 20 years, so I know how bad it can be. Many nights these days I have to take painkillers to sleep.

The surgery can be less invasive now that it used to be. They can used the little tubes with lights and instruments on the end like the do for arthroscopic surgery on the knees. A lot less damage than the old way of laying you open.

I've always walked until I hurt so badly, I couldn't walk.
Maybe I'm not reading you right, but overexertion can be as bad as no exercise at all. You have to build up slowly to allow the muscles time to strengthen.

You're a hundred years old? And you're whining?

Some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope. :-)
