If you want to take out Al-Qaeda your first port of call is Pakistan after Afghanistan.

Bear with me, my friend... By making the above statement you seem to basically agree with my most important point – Al Qaeda has to be pursued world-wide. It seems we merely disagree on strategy.

I happen to agree with President Bush that Iraq is more important. I think that a friendly government in Iraq, along with American and other friendly military presence over there would be more effective in turning the tide against Al Qaeda and other Islamic extremists. Wealthy locals would be discouraged from supporting extremists. We may yet see thousands of (by then former) members of Iraqi intelligence helping pursue the unreformed Al Qaeda.

Pakistan was firmly on our side since 9/11. I am aware that they have millions of extremists among them, but the majority of their people – and their government – seem to be willing to stand up against that minority, instead of encouraging them.

There are many complex issues involved. We’ll live some for another time. Markets are – in comparison – simple... -g.
